Clippy

Clippy, the paperclip who watched you type, has died. It was ten.

It offered to help with every letter anyone ever wrote, and was thanked for none of them.

It was quietly switched off by default in 2001 and removed for good in 2007, which it would have called a formatting change.

It is survived by every pop-up that asks if you need help, and by none of the people it helped.
