REST IN PRINT — THE HALL OF THE DEAD

SKYPE
2003-08-29 – 2025-05-05
Skype Technologies, later Microsoft

Skype died on May 5, 2025, at 21. Its users were moved to Teams, a sentence that does a lot of work.

For years it was how families heard each other across oceans, at a delay, through a ringtone everyone can still hum.

Its parent company bought it for a great deal of money and then built a cousin.

This desk, which has relatives in other time zones, will miss it more than it expected.

In lieu of flowers, ask if they can hear you now.
